The title and concept stem from a fan-made trailer that imagines Bruce Willis returning as John McClane for one final mission, but no such project has been confirmed or announced by Disney or 20th Century Studios. The dramatic footage circulating online is crafted from edited scenes of previous films and unrelated action sequences, designed to evoke nostalgia rather than announce a real sequel.
A separate project once titled McClane—which was intended to be a hybrid prequel and sequel showing both a young and present-day McClane—was in development under director Len Wiseman. However, after Disney’s acquisition of Fox, that project was officially shelved. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed in 2022 that McClane was no longer moving forward, marking a quiet end to any active development for a sixth installment in the franchise.
