Set in a post-apocalyptic Australia ravaged by a deadly virus, Cargo follows Andy (Martin Freeman), a father desperately trying to protect his infant daughter, Rosie. After his wife becomes infected and succumbs to the virus, Andy is left with only 48 hours before he too turns. With limited time and a dangerous journey ahead, he sets out across the barren landscape in search of a safe home for Rosie. The world is now overrun by violent infected humans, and the few remaining survivors are either hostile or struggling to protect themselves.
As he navigates this harsh new reality, Andy encounters Thoomi, a young Aboriginal girl who believes she can cure her infected father using her people’s spiritual traditions. Initially wary of each other, the two form an unlikely bond, as Thoomi agrees to help Andy find a safe place for Rosie. Their journey is filled with harrowing encounters, from ruthless survivalists to the ever-present threat of infection, testing their resilience and trust in one another.
As Andyβs condition worsens, he realizes that time is running out. Knowing he wonβt survive much longer, he devises a desperate plan to ensure Rosieβs safety, even after he turns. With Thoomi’s help, he embraces a heartbreaking yet ingenious method to guide Rosie to safety. In doing so, Andy proves that even in a world consumed by darkness, the love of a parent endures, no matter the cost.
