Set to release on May 30, 2025, Karate Kid: Legends marks the long-awaited return of the iconic martial arts franchise. For the first time, it unites two generations of mentors—Ralph Macchio returns as Daniel LaRusso from the original 1984 saga, and Jackie Chan reprises his role as Mr. Han from the 2010 reboot. The film bridges the gap between the classic Miyagi-do legacy and the kung fu teachings of Mr. Han, creating a shared cinematic universe that honors both timelines.
The story follows Li Fong (played by Ben Wang), a gifted martial artist from Beijing who relocates to New York after a family tragedy. Struggling to find his place in a new culture, Li becomes entangled in local rivalries and emotional challenges. His life takes a turn when he finds himself training under the combined guidance of Daniel and Mr. Han, learning to blend the discipline of karate with the fluid strength of kung fu.
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber, the film began production in April 2024 and wrapped in June. It was developed in coordination with the final season of Cobra Kai to ensure narrative consistency, with the Netflix series’ creators consulting on the script. While Karate Kid: Legends stands on its own, it contains subtle nods to the Cobra Kai universe and its themes of legacy, mentorship, and redemption.
With intense training sequences, heartfelt character arcs, and cross-generational storytelling, Karate Kid: Legends promises to be a powerful continuation of the franchise. It pays tribute to Mr. Miyagi’s wisdom while forging a new path for a new warrior. For fans old and new, it’s not just a sequel—it’s a passing of the torch.
